TOURISM PRICE INDEX FOURTH QUARTER 2004
Introduction
At the end of December, the Tourism Price Index (TPI) for the fourth quarter of 2004 stood at
179.71. This index registered a rise of 20.67 percentage points when
compared to that of September 2004(148.93).A year earlier (December 2003), the index stood at
176.52
Quarterly Comparison
The quarterly comparison of the TPI subgroups recorded an increase in
most of the subgroups. The group Package Travel and Recreation &
Sporting Activities group remain unchanged. All the other groups
registered increases. Accommodation went up by 32.19 percentage points.
Food and Beverage rose 0.71 percentage points and Clothing and Jewelry
increased by 1.03 percentage points. Transportation and Miscellaneous
increased by 9.07 and 21.71 percentage points respectively.
Annual
An annual comparison recorded that there was only a decline in one
group, while there were increases in all other groups. The Package Travel
group fell by 2.99 percentage points. On the other hand, Accommodation rose
by 1.19 percentage points, Clothing & Jewelry went up by 0.45
percentage points,
Food & Beverage increased by 3.28 percentage points, Transportation
rose by 5.58 percentage points and the Miscellaneous increased by 22.70
percentage points.
Rate of inflation
The rate of the TPI inflation registered a quarterly rate of
20.67and an annual rate of 1.81 percent .
