TOURISM PRICE INDEX SECOND QUARTER 2005
Introduction
The Tourism Price Index (TPI) for the second quarter of 2005 stood at an
index level of 54.52, down 7.65 percent points from the 167.31 index
which was recorded in March 2005. A year earlier (June 2004), the index stood at
148.40.
Quarterly Comparison
The quarterly comparison of the Tourism Price Index subgroups recorded
increases in the Food and Beverage subgroup which went up by 2.12
percentage points, Transportation subgroup which increased by 4.48 percentage
points, Recreation and Sporting Activities by 2.83 percentage points while Miscellaneous
subgroup increased by 1.81 percentage points. The subgroups which recorded
decreases were-Clothing and Jewelry which fell by 0.66 percentage points, Accommodation
which declined by 12.64
percentage points. Package Travel subgroup remained unchanged.
Annual
An annual comparison recorded significant changes in all subgroups. The
subgroups which had increases were, Food and Beverage which increased by
6.19 percentage points, Clothing & Jewelry increased by 0.69
percentage points, Transportation went up by 14.89 percentage points, Miscellaneous by
8.34 percentage points, Recreation and Sporting Activities by 2.83
percentage points and Accommodation by 4.61. The subgroups Package
Travel, decline by 3.70 percentage points.
Rate of inflation
The rates of the TPI inflation registered a quarterly rate of
-7.65
percent and an annual rate of 4.12 percent .
