TOURISM PRICE INDEX FIRST QUARTER 2005
Introduction
The Tourism Price Index (TPI) for the first quarter of 2005 stood at an
index level of 167.31, down 6.90 percent points from the 179.71 index
which was recorded on
December 2004. A year earlier (March 2004), the index stood at 174.15.
Quarterly Comparison
The quarterly comparison of the Tourism Price Index subgroups recorded
an increase in the Food and Beverage subgroup which went up by 3.26
percentage points, Transportation subgroup increased by 1.54 percentage
points and Clothing and Jewelry went up by 0.27 percentage points. The
subgroups which recorded decreases were - Package Travel fell by 3.70
percentage points. The subgroups which recorded declined by 2.99
percent, Accommodation declined by 9.98
percentage points and Miscellaneous dropped by 12.57 percentage
points. Recreation and Sporting Activities subgroup remained unchanged.
Annual
An annual comparison recorded significant changes in all subgroups. The
subgroups which had increases were, Food and Beverage which increased by
5.34 percentage points, Clothing & Jewelry increased by 0.54
percentage points, Transportation went up by 5.49 percentage points and
Miscellaneous by 13.25 percentage points. The subgroups Package Travel,
decline by 3.70 percentage points, Accommodation fell by 6.95
percent points and Recreation & Sporting
Activities by 1.99 percentage points.
Rate of inflation
The rates of the TPI inflation registered a quarterly rate of
-6.90
percent and an annual rate of -3.93 percent .
