NATIONAL ACCOUNTS STATISTICAL REPORT
1995 - 1999
The main objective of this National Accounts Report is to provide a
systematic and consistent description of the economy in the British Virgin
Islands (BVIs) as a whole, and the interrelationship between the different
economic sectors and between the total economy and the rest-of-the-world.
National Accounts aggregates such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Gross
National Income (GNI) provided in this report should prove useful to government
for economic planning, and by international organisations and foreign and
domestic investors to evaluate the economic conditions of the country and also
guide opportunities for new investments.
This Report contains a data series starting with the base year 1995 and ending
in 1999. However, it should be noted that only growth rates for the period 1996
to 1999 are presented due to the unavailability of 1994 data. The National
Accounts Statistics was compiled according to the United Nations System of
National Accounts (SNA) 1993. However, all instances in which concepts,
definitions or methodologies were modified have been reported in Appendix I
of this report.
The data presented in this Report was balanced within a Supply and Use Tables (SUT)
framework which provided more reliable data and consequently significantly
enhanced the quality of the data. In the Supply and Use Tables, numbers from
different sources appear in a systematic and organized fashion, allowing the
compiler to discard numbers from unreliable data sources and replace them by
numbers from more accurate sources.
