The Development Planning
Unit has primary responsibility for economic planning, national statistics, manpower
planning and project cycle management. As the co-ordinating development-planning agency,
we are expected to release publications on all aspects of development including social
progress, economic development, environmental management and physical development.
Our publications are intended to
provide information to the general public and decision support services to the Government
of the British Virgin Islands including its statutory bodies and business enterprises. We
are especially mindful of the business community need for reliable and timely statistics
for decision-making. In this connection we have prepared a Schedule of Release Dates
for
our publications anticipating that resources will be available on a timely basis to meet
those release dates. The publications we put on this site are intended to identify and
analyze government policies, strategies, programmes and prospects.
It is intended that our
publications meet the highest ethical and professional standards in line with government
overall philosophy of accountability, transparency and openness. We want our readers to be
confident that our publications are factual and reflective of the true picture of the
development situation in the British Virgin Islands. All documents released are public and
may be quoted or used freely with standard acknowledgements.
National statistics production
occupies virtually half of our resources; accordingly, most of our publications are
Statistical
Publications on the National Accounts, Balance of Payments,
Government Finance,]
Financial Statistics, Prices,
External Trade, Tourism, and
Employment. Public sector investment and prospect cycle
management are critical areas which the Development Planning Unit co-ordinates. We are
therefore responsible for publications on the Public
Sector Investment Programme (PSIP). Economic analysis is another area on which we
publish regularly and periodically. These Economic Publications include Recent Economic Developments (RED), annual
Social
and Economic Review (SAER), Quarterly Bulletin of
Economic Indicators (QBEI), Policy Papers
and Economic Plans.
We publish Social Statistics
reports on Health and Vital
Statistics, Education,
Crime Prevention and
Justice, Family Planning, Social Security and Social Welfare, Children
and Youth and Population.
In addition we publish Administrative
or Departmental reports on the operations of the Development Planning Unit. All
reports are for sale and our Price List is published to better inform our clients
and the public. Should you have any questions, concerns or comments, please do not
hesitate to contact me at the e-mail address, telephone or facsimile number included
below.
