The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of February 2005 stood at 133.77. The pervious month (January 2005) CPI stood at 133.73. One year earlier (February 2004), the index stood at 132.47. Monthly Comparison In a monthly comparison, there were only two subgroups that reflected any movement. The first subgroups- Food, Beverage & Tobacco went up by 0.13 percentage points due to the upward movement in cost of Chicken ( Legs), Cheese (cheddar), Vegetable oils, Sweet Pepper and Lettuce. The other subgroup was Furniture & Household Supplies, which declined by 0.03 percentage points due to fall in the cost of Detergents ( soap -powder) and Liquid Bleaches. All the other subgroups- Housing, Clothing & Footwear, Transportation and Miscellaneous remained unchanged. Annual Comparison In an annual comparison, changes were recorded in all of the subgroups. The Transportation and Miscellaneous subgroups fell by 0.36 and 0.83 percentage points respectively. On the other hand, the Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup registered an increase of 2.90 percentage points, while the Housing subgroup increased by 0.19 percentage points. Furniture & Household Supplies recorded an upward movement of 0.32, while Clothing & Footwear increased by 0.36 percentage points and Services by 2.18 percentage points. Rate of Inflation The point-to-point monthly and annual rate of inflation stood at 0.03, and 0.98 percent respectively. TABLE 1
