The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of October 2005 stood at 138.1. The previous month (September 2005) CPI stood at 137.6. One year earlier (October 2004) stood at 133.4. Monthly Comparison In a monthly comparison, there were some changes within the subgroups. The subgroups which showed increases were - Furniture & Household Supplies which went up by 0.20 percentage points due to the increase in the price of Detergents (Soap Powder), Transportation increased by 3.41 percentage points due to an increase in the price of gasoline. The Subgroups which showed decreases were Food, Beverage & Tobacco which went down by 0.42 percentage points due to the fall in the price of Sodas, Chicken (legs), Potatoes (White), Sugar and V-8 Juices; Clothing and Footwear subgroup decreased by 0.11 percentage points due to the reduction in the price of Pampers; Miscellaneous decreased by 0.17 percentage points due to the decrease in the price of Lotions and Services subgroup went down by 0.17 percentage points due to the decrease in the price of Pens, while the Housing subgroup remained unchanged. Annual Comparison In an annual comparison, changes were recorded in the most of the subgroups. The Furniture & Household Supplies subgroup fell by 0.4 percentage points. On the other hand, the Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup registered an increase of 4.2 percentage points, the Housing subgroup increased by 7.2, Clothing & Footwear subgroup rose by 1.1, Transportation subgroup went up by 6.5 and Services subgroup increased by 1.1percentage points. The Miscellaneous subgroup remained unchanged. Rate of Inflation The monthly and annual rates of inflation stood at 0.32 and 3.5 percent respectively. TABLE 1
