The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of January 2005 stood at 133.73. There was s light change from the previous month (December 2004) which stood at 133.71. One year earlier (January 2004), the index stood at 132.51. Monthly Comparison In a monthly comparison, there were slight changes in two subgroups reflecting movement. One of these subgroups was Food, Beverage & Tobacco which increased by 0.09 percentage points due to the upward movement in cost of Cheese (cheddar), Tomato Ketchup, Whisky, Mayonnaise and Sweet Pepper. The other subgroup, Furniture & Household Supplies declined by 0.04 percentage points due to drop in the cost of Disinfectants, Detergents ( soap -powder) and Garbage Bags. All the other subgroups- Housing, Clothing & Footwear, Transportation and Miscellaneous remained unchanged. Annual Comparison In an annual comparison, the following significant changes were reflected. In the subgroup Furniture & Household Supplies there was an increase by 0.35 percentage points Clothing & Footwear increased by 0.36 percentage points, and the Housing subgroup increased by 0.19 percentage points. The Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup registered an increase of 2.62 percentage points and the Services subgroup, an increase of 2.18 percentage points. On the other hand, there were two subgroups which declined - Transportation which dropped by 0.36 percentage points and Miscellaneous which declined by 0.83 percentage points. Rate of Inflation The point-to-point monthly and annual rate of inflation stood at 0.02, and 0.92 percent respectively. TABLE 1
