Introduction

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of November 2005 stood at 137.5. The previous month (October 2005) CPI stood at 137.6. One year earlier (November 2004) stood at 133.6.

Monthly Comparison

In a monthly comparison, there were some changes within the subgroups. The subgroups which showed increases were - Food , Beverage & Tobacco which went up by 0.27 percentage points due to the increases in the price of Beef ( ground), Potatoes (white) and Rice. Services increased by 0.13 due to an increase in the price of Aspirin/paracetamol. The Miscellaneous subgroup increased by 0.01 percentage points due to an increase in the price of Lotion. The Subgroups which showed decreases were Furniture & Household Supplies which went down by 0.01 percentage points due to the fall in the price of Detergents (Soap Powder); Clothing and Footwear decreased by 0.07 percentage points due to the fall in the price of Pampers, and the Transportation subgroup went down by 3.44 percentage points due to an increase in the reduction in the price of gasoline. The Housing subgroup remained unchanged.

Annual Comparison

In an annual comparison, changes were recorded in all of the subgroups. The Furniture & Household Supplies subgroup fell by 0.4 percentage points. On the other hand, the Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup registered an increase of 3.8 percentage points, the Housing subgroup increased by 7.2 percentage points, Clothing & Footwear subgroup rose by 1.0 percentage points,, Transportation subgroup went up by 1.5 percentage points, Services subgroup increased by 1.2 percentage points while Miscellaneous subgroup rose by 0.9 percentage points.

Rate of Inflation

The monthly and annual rates of inflation stood at 0.38 and 2.9 percent respectively.
