The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of ( July 2006) stood at 140.11. There was a slight increase from the previous month ( June 2006) which stood at 140.00. One year earlier ( July 2005), the index stood at 136.37. Monthly Comparison In a monthly comparison, there were increases in some of the subgroups. The Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup increased by 0.21 percentage points due to the upward movements in the price of Chicken (Whole), Eggs and Vegetable oils. Furniture & Household Supplies increased by 0.03 percentage points due to the increase in the cost of Disinfectants and Toilet Paper. Miscellaneous subgroup increased by 0.45 percentage points due to the upward movement price in Lotion and Toilet Soap. The subgroups which remained unchanged were Housing, Clothing & Footwear, Transportation and Services. There were no decreases in any subgroup. Annual Comparison In an annual comparison, there were changes in the following subgroup. The Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup increased by 4.77 percentage points, Clothing & Footwear subgroup registered an increase of 2.28 percentage points, Transportation subgroup increased by 1.66 percentage points, Services subgroup increased by 11.10 percentage points and Miscellaneous subgroup increased by 7.28 percentage points. The subgroups which showed decreases were the Housing subgroup, which decreased by 2.02 percentage points and Furniture & Household Supplies subgroup which decreased by 0.92 percentage points. Rate of Inflation The point-to-point monthly and annual rates of inflation stood at 0.08 and 2.74 percentage points respectively. TABLE 1
