Introduction

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of  October 2006 stood at 140.60. There was a slight increase from the previous month ( September 2006) which stood at 140.55. One  year earlier ( October 2005), the index stood at 138.07.

Monthly Comparison

In a monthly comparison, there were decreases in the following subgroups. The  Furniture & Household Supplies decreased by -0.02 percentage points due to the decline in the cost of Disinfectants, Liquid Bleaches and Garbage Bags; Clothing & Footwear subgroup decreased by -0.04 percentage points due to the fall in the cost of pampers and Miscellaneous subgroup decreased by -0.62 percentage points due to the drop in the cost of Lotion and Toothpaste. While the only subgroup that showed an increase was Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup which fluctuated by 0.32 percentage points due to the rise in Pork Chops, Fish , Eggs and Vegetable oils.

 Annual Comparison

In an annual comparison, there were changes in the following subgroup. The Food, Beverage & Tobacco subgroup increased by 4.15  percentage points, Clothing & Footwear subgroup registered an  increase of 2.48 percentage points, Services subgroup increased 11.28 percentage points, Furniture & Household Supplies subgroup increased by 0.89 percentage points and Miscellaneous subgroup increased by 2.27 percentage points. The subgroups which showed decreases were the  Transportation subgroup which decreased by -4.26 and Housing subgroup which  decreased by -2.02 percentage points.

Rate of Inflation

The point-to-point monthly and annual rates of inflation stood at 0.04 and 1.84 percentage points respectively.
